Scrap the Boys

Very excited to (belatedly) announce that I am back on the Scrap the Boys Challenge Blog DT.

It's not too late to get your entry in for the Scrap the Boys July Challenge.

I did a super quick pocket page style LO to record my biggest boy's "toy" collection...

There is a whole stack more inspiration over on the blog.

... AND AWESOME PRIZES TO BE WON!

I hope you will join in. ;)

This life really IS beautiful...

So much to catch up on... the bullet point version:

  • Kids back at school. Miss C taking the bus everyday and becoming far too independent in high school (eek), Miss D has a fabulous teacher, Aus and Alb starting at the Language Development Center (common sense CAN prevail if you work through the mountains of bullshit in your path)... and even taking the 7am bus pick ups in their stride... me not so much. :/

  • The boys have, for the most part, been well... but unfortunately they've had a terrible cough the past week that I am praying is gone soon.

  • Their last few follow up appointments and scans have shown "nothing remarkable" but we have more review scans (it really is never ending) coming up soon. My paranoia has kicked in since this damn cough though.
  • The girls have had friends sleeping over and have gone to friends for sleepovers.
  • I finally got a hair do I love.

  • The Man of the House has started playing cricket... and fancies himself a contender... so happy to see him doing something for himself and enjoying life.
  • We had a FABULOUS Big Day out at Adventure World.

  • Brad turned 22.

  • Callie turned 12.

  • Dylan turned 9.

  • Aus and Albert will be 5 on Wednesday.
  • FAR OUT!
  • I shopped at IKEA and rearranged my scrap room (work in progress).

  • I got to teach on a Scrap cruise... Sam Fillingham from Northam Travel rocks.

Yep, this life really IS beautiful...

Catching up...

I really must get us all back into a routine... I cannot believe we only have one week of school holidays left... It's gone way too fast for my liking. :(

I know I should stop doing it but I have been enjoying staying up until the wee hours for this past week. I am almost finished the first half of 2008.  As usual I am planning digitally... creating the LOs, cropping and editing photos and adding words and graphics in PSE7.  I will still be printing each photo out individually and using divided page protectors and Simple Stories' The Daily Grind  collection to put this album together.

I don't have any notes or anything to complete my journaling so my plan is just to look at the photos and put down the basics. If the photos remind me of a story or I want to reflect on the memories from a retrospective point of view I will do that too... some might be written in present tense, some in past tense... normally that would annoy me and I would say the key is consistency... but I'm going to just go with the flow and it will be whatever it will be. I  will also add in lots of quotes and filler cards that I make myself in PSE7.  Oh and I also used a few cards from Becky Higgins' Digital Project Life Rad Dad mini collection.

Admittedly, I had nowhere near the photos that I take now back then... only a few special occasions, a couple of DIY photo shoots and lots of odd, random pics too... I am sort of doing it monthly but I have still ended up with a few spreads per month...  It was all looking a bit too higgledy-piggledy and I didn't think I was liking it... but as I've gone along it is all sort of coming together... in a random, mish-mashed but still kinda chronological sort of order.

2008 was a sad year for us... hard to believe it is almost 6 years (in April) since my brother in-law passed away.  I still swear the darling twins, Austin and Albert were his last little joke on us... TMI? I worked out they would have been conceived right around his birthday in July... and lo and behold when did they make their grand entrance? Just one day before his first year anniversary... weird how things work out hey?

There won't be many photos for the last few months of 2008 because I spent most of it violently ill with the pregnancy. So I think I am going to get this whole album done in record time... I will share more when I am finished... but here's a few of the digital versions I have planned...

GAH! I just noticed a spelling (actually, it's a grammatical) mistake! Doing my head in... will have to fix it now.  OK, I just had an idea... I have a little prize for the first person who finds it and tells me what it is in the comments here on my blog... If you click on each pic it should show big enough for you to read.

Next week is filled up with follow up appointments and scans for review... and me trying to get them all organised for back to school.  I'm trying not to think too much about any of it... It can be a bit overwhelming if you dwell on the could be and what ifs... There's been too much sad news for so many families on the oncology ward of late... these amazing people and their incredible families keep on taking the next step no matter what. Cancer is cruel and my heart aches for them.  Love your babies well people. Be mindful and aware. Stop and breathe them in... even when they are well the time flashes by in an instant doesn't it?

Happiness and health to you and yours... if you've got those sorted... you have wealth sorted.

There goes another one...

Yet another year has whizzed by at break neck speed.

Quick update on the (not all so) little darlings...

Miss C graduated from Primary School and is off to high school next year. Daddy has his shotgun loaded. ;)

Miss D is happy and healthy, addicted to Minecraft and loving the school holidays.

Mr B is happy and healthy and still working at the pharmacy and is addicted to WoW.

The Mr As are both well... we had a bit of a set back last week and spent a night in hospital with fears it was something more sinister but were relieved to find out it was "just a virus".  The Mumma's paranoia kicked in fueled by hand wringing, brow furrowing doctors and too many blood tests... Sorry young doctor... I know you have to learn by experience but look me in the eye... now listen very carefully when I tell you I am deadly serious here, please go home and practice on YOURSELF before you come anywhere near my boys with a hypodermic needle EVER again!

So more follow up appointments and scans at the end of the month... please keep saying a little prayer for them. We are so blessed to have so much support out there.

Speaking of which... how freaking amazing are San and Peta? OMG you girls totally rocked me last month... words can't even touch on how amazed and grateful and totally blown away we were by them organising an auction for us... and then the overwhelming and extraordinary generosity of so many people from the scrap community and family and friends... I could go on and on and on... I just want you all to know how very honoured and humbled we all were by this wonderful event. Thank you all once again from the bottom of seven very grateful hearts.

So Christmas came and went with the darling husband away (trying to earn some extra dollars up north) and my sister and her little clan spending a few days with us.  It was a lovely few days spent playing with the kids, eating our favourite foods... drinking a little... and just being... my ideal Christmas.

New Year was pretty uneventful too... which in this house is a GOOD thing. ;)

I am really looking forward to 2014... I haven't felt this enthusiastic or upbeat in a very long time.  I am planning on making it OUR year... well MY year really... All things being equal and keeping everything crossed that the boys will continue to improve and kick this damn disease once and for all... I'm switching my mindset... I have decided to start putting my own health and well being much closer to the top of the priority list. Eating better. Cutting out sugar (that's a HUGE undertaking I gotta tell ya). Moving more.  Just as simple as that.  So far so good.  3kg down since Jan 1. I will keep you posted. ;)

I have the scrapbooking cruise coming up soon... really looking forward to that in just 67 days...  OMG 67 days??? Far out time really IS flying by!

I am also taking on teaching more classes at Tomorrow's Memories this year too... SUPER excited about that.

Here's a few that I have taught recently...

I have two more classes on 5th and 8th of March... one a traditional LO using some gorgeous masculine Kaisercraft papers from the Art of Life range... and the other is a hybrid traditional plus pocket page double LO using my absolute favourite Simple Stories range Daily Grind.

So anyway, my other plans include keeping up to date with my PL family album (5th year this year!) AND do an album "all about me" AND blog a bit more often... we will see how I go I guess. Famous last words I've heard before. ;)

Anyway, thanks for dropping in on occasion if you still do... Facebook sort of killed the blogspot star didn't it?

Peace and love and wonderful things to you and yours. May 2014 bring you health, wealth and happiness.

7 + 21 years later...

It's hard to imagine that this was us... in 1987.

... and then in 1989... Aaron's 18th birthday party... Me about to finish year 12 exams... we'd already been together 4 years by this stage.
My childhood sweetheart and literally the boy next door...

... and then in 1992... Getting married at long last.

We did everything back to front... had a baby, then bought a house, then went on a honeymoon, then got married. I finally got my engagement ring a few years ago... Time he took me on a date I think. ;)

We've been together 28 of our 42 years...

Some one asked me recently did I think I had found "your one"... I thought about it for a moment or two... I wanted to contemplate it properly, give it the consideration it demanded... and I was happy to say, with confidence, sincerity and absolute certainty that,  "Yes. I definitely found my one".  It might not have always been pretty but I know that you are my one darling husband and I cannot ever imagine not having you in my life.

Happy 21st Wedding Anniversary my love... And here's to our very own fairy tale... Complete with plot twists, dragons, monsters and villains.

Love you forever and for always.

BE BRIGHT

Do you have a pile of birthday party or photo shoot or other special occasion type photos that you would like to get scrapped in one sitting?

Let me show you how...

I am teaching a class at Tomorrow's Memories on Saturday 14th December 2013 from 1pm to 3pm.

This class is a hybrid class... you will complete a traditional layout plus a pocket page using the Kaisercraft Confetti range of paper and embellishments.  Bright, happy and just gorgeous... I don't think the Kaiser website photos do it any justice to be honest.

I will also show you two other page designs that you can complete at home with the remaining kit supplies. That's four layouts in total... I know how to get the most bang for my buck. ;)

I hope you can join me for a bit of budget scrapping and fun before the silly season kicks in in earnest. Bookings can be made by telephone. Please ring (08) 9279 2183.

THEN after all the Christmas celebrations are winding down don't forget to set some "me time" aside and join us for...

Just sharin' some stuff...

I mostly consider myself a "Project Lifer" these days but I still like the occasional creative session... these were all classes that I taught at Tomorrow's Memories over the last few months...
